Open loops

Loops that check first

A nudge that checks whether you already did it before interrupting you.

A reminder interrupts you on a timer whether or not the loop is already closed, which is why founders stop trusting them. Arden’s open loops check reality first: sent means silence, still open means a nudge that says why.

  • Gmail
  • Arden memory

You say

“Remind me tonight if I haven’t sent John the proposal.”

Arden handles it

Open loop

Tonight, 8:00 PM

Only if it has not gone

Watching

Sent mail to John

Mentions of the proposal

How it works

  1. 01

Arden stores the condition with the loop: what has to be true, checked against your actual mail rather than your intentions.

  2. 02

At the trigger time it checks. Sent means silence. Not sent means the loop comes back with the reason attached.

  3. 03

Every nudge explains itself, so you always know why you are being interrupted.

Things to say

You say

“Remind me tonight if I haven’t sent John the proposal.”

You say

“If Alexa hasn’t replied by Thursday, nudge me.”

You say

“Remind me before the meeting if the vendor form is still open.”

Good for

  • The proposal you meant to send today
  • Threads that have gone quiet
  • Chasing replies without keeping a list
  • Loops that respect your attention
